Getting ready for a surprise party

I attend a small church, so we feel more like a family than a church.  One of my dear church friends is leaving next week to start a new job in Indiana.  While it is an exciting opportunity for her, I am very sad to see her leave.  A few of us are planning a surprise going away party tomorrow night and rather than have the standard "going away" cake, I decided to have a dessert bar.  I have chosen two recipes so far and will be spending  a part of my day tomorrow putting them together.  There was a time I did a lot of baking.  But, with a husband trying to watch his calorie intake, an adult child with a gluten sensitivity, and two teens who (surprisingly) are not  big dessert eaters, my baking consists of an occasional batch of muffins, and break-and-bake chocolate chip cookies.  While am sad that my friend Sara is moving, I am glad she is giving me a reason to jump start my baking skills--even if only for one day!   Obviously, there will be a follow up blog to compare these pictures with my real life product!

Crispy Mexican Truffles RecipeSince the party falls one day before Cinco de Mayo, I thought this would be a fun one to include (thank you Simple and Delicious!)
