A CHRIST-mas Story

Yes, it is Christmas time yet again.  We have had a full few weeks since Thanksgiving last month.  We hosted our own holiday party in early December---which is where this cake made its debut!  A friend of my husbands made this for us even though she could not make it to the party.  Wow, it was so lovely that no-one wanted to cut it (but we did, of course, and it tasted just as delicious as you would have imagined!) Then I had my small group celebration at the Maggiano's restaurant in our area. We had a fabulous time and the food was ...well it's Maggiano's.  'Nuff said. Actually, no matter where we would have gone, it would have been a great time because I have such a wonderful group of ladies in my small group and we always manage to have fun whenever we are together!  A few days later, I celebrated my office Christmas party.  This year was a bit more low key than usual.  And, much more of a focus on the true meaning of Christmas and what that means for our everyday lives.  I have a very small office and within that group this year we have experienced the death of a husband, the death of a parent, a parent in rapidly declining health, a miscarriage, a divorce and significant health issues for adult children....just to name a few.  And because we are so small and have worked together for so long, all of these life events  have affected each of us in some way.  For this reason, it just seemed right to focus our end of year party on the birth of Jesus, in fact on the mission of Jesus. So glad to work in an office where this truth is paramount and shared without fear.

Isaiah 9:6-7 (New International Version)

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.
