I had so many good intentions for writing in my blog this summer, but one week preparing for vacation, two weeks on vacation and another week trying to recover from those two weeks (along with a bit of jet lag added in) and here we are at the end of August, which is basically the end of summer!  Wow, where did it all go?!  Our west coast vacation was wonderful, not only because the weather was perfect-- Yes,  perfect weather every day -- but because we had a great visit with my husband's sister and her family, as well as my dear father-in-law.  Many people I know have a difficult or somewhat strained relationship with their in-laws but this has never been the case for me.  Perhaps distance has made the difference since they are not "in our business" on a daily basis.  But, I really think it has to do with the people themselves.   I have been blessed in so many ways by my Middleton family and have always felt a very close connection to them from the ver...

It's not what I asked for....but I'll take it

These past couple of months have been difficult for my immediate family, and my son in particular. Without going into details, he has been dealing with a health issue that sort of crept in slowly and then, suddenly, in mid January it came on with a vengeance.  It is always a scary time when your child has a debilitating illness, no matter how short or long lasting.  It is also very unsettling when you realize there is very little you can do to make them better.    Only time and medication can take care of some illnesses.  No amount of mom's TLC will make this better.  Only time and medication. Oh, and PRAYER.  Oh, and SCRIPTURE.  They may not always cure the illness, but they really do something to the soul that is very very good.  In the meantime, February rolled around and we found ourselves in the midst of two important Biblical celebrations  Only later would I begin to see how these two celebrations could have so much me...

March Madness

Yes, I know...it's April.  That's the whole point....March was such a crazy month, it took most of the month of April to regroup.  (OK..so I am exaggerating a bit...but this is my blog so I am allowed to puff things up a bit, right?)  Of course, in the Middleton house March is birthday month.  All three of the Middleton males celebrate birthdays within an 11 day stretch.  The oldest boy Ryan is first, followed by dear husband, and then youngest son Parker.  This was a big year for Parker. It was a low key celebration--chinese food for dinner and this fabulous cake for dessert.  I am pleased and proud that the first thing he did as an 18 year old was register to vote! We were surprised with a few small snows the early part of March, but we were really surprised when  we got 4 inches of snow on Palm Sunday (yes--as in March 24, three days into spring!)
